The Companions
The Cataclysm & The War of the Lance
The current year for our Dragonlance campaign is set during 351 AC "After Cataclysm".
Inspired By Trampas Whiteman
Hordus Blackforge was born in the dwarven nation of Thorbardin beneath the Kharolis Mountains, but his life changed forever during his first mining expedition when a tunnel collapse trapped him and his brother beneath the rubble. Helpless, unable to move or see, and forced to listen to his brother die nearby before rescue crews reached him, the traumatic experience left deep emotional scars that haunted him for years. Plagued by nightmares, claustrophobia, and a fear of darkness, Hordus eventually refused to enter the mines again, needing countless candles lit just to sleep through the night. Unable to bear the pity of those around him, he left home at a young age and wandered the southern regions of Abanasinia, preferring the open wilderness and isolated life above ground. Despite his trauma, Hordus remains a typical dwarf in many ways—gruff, hardworking, fond of drink, and skilled with his hands, especially in wood carving and whittling while relaxing with his pipe outdoors. Open-minded and easy to talk to, he still struggles with the death of his brother and his fear of confined spaces, though he can be persuaded underground when necessary. In recent years, Hordus has traveled with companions between New Ports and Haven, escorting merchant caravans across Abanasinia in an effort to earn an honest living.
The story of Elora Dawn’s story begins when she awakens in a muddy ditch along a lonely road in northeastern Abanasinia with no memory of who she is or what happened to her. Nearby, three smoldering wagons and the bodies of several travelers and goblins reveal the aftermath of a brutal attack that she somehow survived. The only clue to her identity is the name “Elora Dawn” engraved on her coin pouch. After wandering to the small settlement of Ravenvale and taking refuge at the Ravenvale Inn, she discovers a journal among her belongings that reveals much about her personality and recent life. Through its pages, Elora learns she is highly intelligent, logical, outspoken, fiercely loyal, and determined, though beneath her confidence lies deep insecurity and vulnerability that drive her constant need to excel. She also discovers her strong love of nature, learning, and exploration, as well as hints that she willingly left her former home behind to pursue greater ambitions. Over the past several months traveling across Abanasinia with newfound companions, she has gradually found peace despite the torment of not knowing her origins, and after accepting her memory loss, she has devoted herself to traveling with her friends in search of answers while following the teachings of Mishakal.
